Conservative outrage aimed at former Fox News personality Tucker Carlson for saying he won’t vote for Republicans in November could come back to haunt the GOP if he makes the leap and runs for president.
According to Salon political analyst Amanda Marcotte, Carlson has a large enough following and a big enough megaphone via his podcast to create problems for leading contenders like Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance.
And that could put Republicans who are openly furious at him about his GOP boycott in an awkward place.
As she explained in a YouTube short after sharing a clip of conservative gadfly Ben Shapiro stating, “Well, don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Tucker,” Carlson is “probably going to run for the 2028 presidential nomination.”
Claiming the controversial Carlson is “setting himself up as an outsider,” she suggested, "The people that want the establishment to stay in place, that want the Marco Rubios and JD Vances to be the only options in the primary for Republican voters are kind of pi--y about Tucker Carlson doing this. And people that want to mix things up and want to continue MAGA takeover of the party really love this.”
“I look at this, and I just see Tucker Carlson is going to win and Ben Shapiro is going to cry, and they will all get on board and pretend like they were always friends because they cannot and will not let a Democrat win,” she added.
“When Ben Shapiro gets on board with Tucker Carlson as the GOP nominee in 2028, liberals are going to pull that clip of him and saying that Tucker self-deported from the GOP and they are going to be like ,‘neener, neener, neener,’” she joked.
As for Republican lawmakers, she predicted, “They'll be kissing his a-- if he runs for president," because that will "bring them to heel.”
