Tulsa man nearly sent to jail over 2014 movie rental he lost after becoming homeless -- but good samaritan steps in

Oklahoma resident Lonnie Perry faced potential jail time for an overdue DVD that he rented back in 2014.

"I lived in Claremore at the time, just a regular weekday. I went home from work, stopped by and rented a movie, then went home and watched it," Perry said.

He rented the movie Ted and no idea just how much the movie would end up costing him. Shortly after renting the DVD, Perry fell on hard times and became homeless.

His DVD rental bill in now nearly $218.00 "I just don't have that kind of money right off. I'll get it, and I'll pay it. I'll do what I have to do. I just think it could have gone a different route," said Perry.

"I understand the video place having to do what they've got to do. There's other means of trying to get a hold of people without a warrant," he said. "It wasn't worth the $5 I rented it for."

Shortly after his story went viral a local business stepped in an helped him pay the bill. Jeff of All Trades, a local handyman company, drove to the rental store and paid off Perry's entire bill.
