November 10, 2013 2:22AM ET
Two men were shot Saturday night at about 11 pm in Bryant Park, a popular destination in midtown Manhattan that features an ice rink.
Video footage shows a victim being lifted into an ambulance while still wearing skates.
One victim was injured in the leg, the other in the torso. According to the New York Times, one eyewitness said that one man came up to another on the ice, pulled out a gun, and opened fire. The New York Daily News talked to witnesses who said the shooter was outside the rink. And the Times later updated its story to say a witness it talked to also placed the shooter off the ice with people who were taking photos. That witness said the gunman scanned the ice until he aimed at the victim and opened fire.
The Times reports that a 19-year-old named Christopher Guerrero said that one of the victims was a friend of his named Adonis.
"I didn't see no blood," Guerrero told the newspaper. "I asked, 'Are you OK?' and he said, 'I can't feel my legs'."
Witnesses told police they heard three shots as the crowd at the rink scattered.
The New York Daily News reports that police are looking for a suspect with dreadlocks and wearing a red hoodie.
The Associated Press talked to 29-year-old Raghuram Krishnamachar, who was eating at a restaurant overlooking the rink. "People just fell on the floor because they heard a gunshot and they had ice skating skates on so they couldn't run," he said. "People were scared they didn't know what was going on."
The rink opened for the season on November 1. It's free to use, and skates can be rented. The rink closes at midnight on Friday and Saturday nights.
