Former FBI general counsel James Baker told Congress last year that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein believed at one point that he had two members of President Donald Trump's Cabinet lined up to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove him from office.
Axios reports that Baker heard the remarks second hand from former deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe.
"To the best of my recollection [McCabe] told me that the deputy attorney general said that he had at least two members of the cabinet who were ready to invoke the 25th Amendment," Baker revealed.
Baker did not know which Cabinet officials were open to removing Trump via the 25th Amendment, but he said that Rosenstein was genuinely concerned about the president being a grave risk to national security and the rule of law.
"This was not a joking sort of time," he said. "This was pretty dark."
