U.S. Marshals arrest suspect in 2012 shooting death of Texas teen lesbian couple

U.S. Marshals have arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting and shooting a teen lesbian couple that rocked the city of Portland, Texas, in 2012.

David Malcolm Strickland, 27, was arrested after the U.S. Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force were alerted that he was holed up in an apartment in Helotes, Texas, according to KIII-TV.

According to authorities, officers surveilled the apartment briefly before entering and arresting Strickland without incident.

Strickland is accused of sexually assaulting and shooting 19-year old Mollie Olgin and 18-year old Kristene Chapa in a public park June 23, 2012.

The two women, left for dead, were later found by a couple passing by. Olgin died at the scene, but Chapa survived.

Now 20, Chapa continues to undergo rehabilitation after being shot in the head.

“I am thrilled that the collaborative efforts of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, Texas Rangers, and Portland Police Department resulted in Strickland’s arrest,” Robert R. Almonte, United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas, said in a statement. “He’s a stone cold killer who thought he got away with murder, but will finally pay for his crime. My sympathies and condolences go to the victims and their families who had to endure this wicked act of violence.”

Strickland is currently being held awaiting extradition to the San Patricio County Jail, where he will face charges of capital murder, aggravated assault with a weapon, and aggravated sexual assault.
