President Donald Trump announced on TruthSocial that he is sending his Treasury Secretary to Ukraine.
"I am sending Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent to Ukraine to meet President Zelensky. This War MUST and WILL END SOON — Too much Death and Destruction. The U.S. has spent BILLIONS of Dollars Globally, with little to show. WHEN AMERICA IS STRONG, THE WORLD IS AT PEACE," Trump posted.
However, a Reuters report claimed that Bassent was being sent to Ukraine to discuss "rare earth minerals."

According to Bloomberg News, President Volodymyr "Zelensky told reporters in Kyiv earlier Monday that he planned to meet with 'serious people' from the Trump administration in Ukraine before the Munich Security Conference, which begins on Friday."
Secretary of State Marco Rubio will be in Germany and Vice President J.D. Vance will meet Zelensky on Friday at the conference. Rubio has supported Ukraine after the Russian invasion.
Zelensky implied that the "deal" that Trump might want is to offer up the minerals in exchange for aid.
“If we are talking about a deal, then let’s do a deal, we are only for it,” Zelensky told Reuters in a Friday interview.
Alison Tahmizian Meuse of Hairenik Media pointed out, "Notable choice to send the money man. Trump earlier said he wants to recoup billions spent in Ukraine."
