Swears and slurs hurled as roaring 'whisper' campaign mounts to ruin VP: report

A member of Vice President JD Vance’s inner circle hurled swears and slurs when asked about a roaring “whisper” campaign among conservatives to destroy the former Ohio senator’s political career, according to a new report.

The Bulwark's Jake Lahut reported Friday that a “civil war” raging inside the Republican Party, with Vance as a primary target, has his allies fuming about plots and ops.

"Do you think we're f-----g stupid?" one Vance ally told Lahut. "Obviously it is [an op]. We're not a bunch of f-----g r------."

According to Lahut, Vance's political operation believes there is a "brewing plot to sabotage the vice president’s chances of winning the 2028 GOP presidential nomination," confined mostly to broadsides on X and a behind-the-scenes back-stabbing network, serious enough to spark real "paranoia inside his camp."

Another Trump-world source described the campaign to The Bulwark's Lahut as an attempt to "kill" Vance's candidacy "in the cradle."

"The attacks have mainly called into question Vance’s support for the Iran war and his failed attempts to negotiate an end to it. They have also resurfaced remarks Vance made casting doubt on the U.S. dollar as the global reserve currency," Lahut wrote before adding, "Vance’s network has seemingly tried to get ahead of the charges with strategic leaks to the press."

Trump adviser Alex Bruesewitz, who has previously singled out coordinated right-wing digital campaigns, told The Bulwark that the anti-Vance posting "is not organic and part of a broader move to undermine the vice president."

People in Vance’s network told The Bulwark that "they were not surprised by the apparent effort to take the wind out of his sails going into 2028" and pointedly admitted they were "surprised by how clumsy the effort has been so far."

No one interviewed for the Bulwark story would say Secretary of State Marco Rubio is personally involved, though the tension underscores a simmering rivalry between the two as 2028 approaches.

A Vance ally blew off the vice president's critics as "a collection of establishment neocon operatives and media voices," adding: "Their obvious Never Vance op, which they were hoping to keep clandestine until after the midterms, has already been exposed on social media due to the hamfisted way they've gone about it."
