The View's Abby Huntsman whines about the 'saddest thing' about the shutdown -- but Whoopi quickly schools her

"The View" co-host Abby Huntsman lamented the "saddest thing" about the ongoing government shutdown, but she was swiftly corrected by host Whoopi Goldberg.

All the panelists agreed the federal government shutdown, now at 33 days and counting, was harmful, but they disagreed slightly about who was hurt most.

"Honestly, I'm actually, like, emotionally depressed over this," said co-host Meghan McCain, "and it's affecting my emotional state, and I think it is (for) a lot of Americans."

"I just never thought we'd be here, as strange as that sounds, 33 days, 41,000 active-duty military people aren't getting their paychecks, 2,100 civilians considered essential personnel, people protecting us from terrorism aren't getting a paycheck," she added. "This is absolutely garbage, and if anyone wants to storm the Bastille, I'm down to go with you."

McCain quickly pointed out she was joking about taking revolutionary action, but her fellow conservative Huntsman agreed public safety was the biggest victim.

"They're important jobs that protect us all, that's the saddest part about it," Huntsman said.

Goldberg stepped in to remind Huntsman that government employees who were missing paychecks were hurt the most.

"Well no, the saddest part about it is the people that work for a living every day, they work for a living, sometimes some of these folks have two or three jobs because it's not enough to cover," Goldberg said. "The fact that, like many things that happen in government, the real people are not taken into consideration, especially when it lasts a long time."

"I know we have to go," she added, "and, you know, you know what you can do, you know what you can do. Fifty states, I'm sure, are represented here. You know what you can do, let's help the people."
