The View’s Meghan McCain flames out trashing Comey: ‘He wants his own late night talk show! He had a Twitter account!’

"The View" co-host Meghan McCain accused former FBI director James Comey of attacking President Donald Trump for personal gain.

The FBI director fired by Trump is promoting his new book, "A Higher Loyalty," which compares the president to a Mafia boss and describes him as amoral and unfit to lead -- and McCain questioned Comey's motives.

"He hasn't done himself any favors," McCain said. "Again, he has made himself this highly political animal, and I will say there are great people who work for the Justice Department, like, who are just doing it because they want to be public servants. I think James Comey wants his own late night show."

McCain's colleagues disagreed, and co-host Joy Behar said Trump didn't even deserve Comey's mob boss comparison.

"Comey also claims that Trump is, like, a mob boss, quote-unquote, was obsessed with loyalty," Behar said. "In my opinion, Don Corleone had loyalty to Clemenza and Tessio (in the 'Godfather' films). Trump throws everybody under the bus. He has no loyalty to anybody -- except maybe Ivanka. That's about it."

The other panelists agreed that Trump demanded "blind adoration" from other government officials, but McCain wasn't finished trashing Comey.

"Can I just say something?" she started out. "He also, like, in some of the clips that have come out, and the excerpts -- and we have the book, and we're reading it over the weekend -- one of the things that came out is him saying that he was crying to President Obama after he had come out about Hillary Clinton's e-mails 10 days before the election."

"So, like, again, are you political?" McCain added. "Why is either president's respect for your or admiration -- why are you crying to President Obama in an emotional way if you don't want the validation of presidents. You're supposed to be completely separate and apolitical."

Behar said Republican efforts to undermine Comey show "something's very, very scary to them about this book" -- and McCain came right back with another attack on the former FBI director.

"I want to say one thing as we exit," McCain said. "Do you know what (special counsel Robert) Mueller looks like? Does he have a Twitter account? Do you know anything about his personal life? Comey had a Twitter account while he was head of the FBI. He does a lot of things that are non-traditional for a head of the FBI. There are a lot of people in the FBI who do great work, no idea who they are, what they look like. He is a political animal."
