Disturbing allegations as MAGA candidate's mom doctored data behind his fortune: report

A Trump-aligned candidate for governor in Ohio has long touted his biotech experience, but much of his success may have been due to his mom doctoring data, according to a new report.

Oligarchy Watch reported on Wednesday that Vivek Ramaswamy's mom, Geetha, who worked with her son at biotech firm Axovant despite having no experience running clinical trials, may have manipulated data about the effectiveness of the drug intepirdine, which Axovant purchased in its efforts to develop a treatment for Alzheimers.

"At Axovant, her co-analyses pulled from Glaxo’s 48-week, Phase 2b clinical trial of 684 Alzheimer’s patients that found the drug had “failed to achieve formal statistical significance” and had not 'met the overall criteria for success,'" according to the report.

"However, by omitting huge segments of the original trial data, a 'responder analysis' co-authored by Geetha Ramaswamy concluded there was enough evidence to 'support the initiation of a Phase 3 confirmatory study evaluating the efficacy of RVT-101 [intepirdine] in mild-to-moderate Alzheimer’s disease in the second half of 2015,'" it added.

That conclusion didn't stop the company from loading up on $315 million in new investments ahead of its initial public offering. Doing so put Geetha and her son in a position to profit handsomely from the drug, even if it was ineffective, according to the report.

After the company debuted in a $1.4 billion IPO, the largest in biotech history at the time, Vivek and his mom found a "back door" to sell their shares and walked away with more than $260 million, according to the report. That left investors holding the bag, including one teacher who lost their $1 million retirement savings from the fiasco, the report found.
