MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski applauded Chris Christie for putting a finishing move on Vivek Ramaswamy, whom he called “the most obnoxious blowhard in America.”
The Republican presidential candidates traded barbs throughout Wednesday's debate, which is the final one until the Iowa caucuses, and the "Morning Joe" host and panelist Molly Jong-Fast appreciated Christie coming to fellow GOP challenger Nikki Haley's defense by saying Ramaswamy had "insulted" her "basic intelligence."
"I've been, like, the biggest Chris Christie critic," said Jong-Fast, "but I was moved by him stopping the tape and being lovely. Mika, didn't you relate to that in a weird way?"
"I did," Brzezinski agreed. "I'll tell you why, because, you know, I think that women can point out sexism and other things, ageism, whatever, but when men do it, as well, it's even better. I appreciated it, and I thought, you know, it was generous. He didn't have to do it, he could have left her standing alone to all of this, but he kind of pointed it out and put a full stop on it. Yes, she can do it for herself. She's already proven that. She's taken down that Ramaswamy guy many times to massive applause in these debates. I think it's gotten to the point where everybody needs to sort of point out what they see. I thought what Chris Christie did sort of reminded me about sort of what I tell women in, you know, my 'Know Your Value' community. We have to have a voice, but we also have to have a very open mind to men who step up for us, because that's part of it, you know? I think it was great. I think it was great ... it meant a lot to me when he did that."
"Chivalry is not dead," offered host Joe Scarborough.
"It wasn't chivalry," Brzezinski replied. "It was pointing out stupidity."
