WATCH: AZ recorder blames voters for 5 hour waits after she cut polling places from 200 to 60

Probably not since Florida's Katherine Harris stepped in and helped hand the Presidency to the Bush family in 2000 -- with an assist from the Supreme Court and Ralph Nader -- has one person so blithely and unapologetically messed with the voting rights of the public until the disaster in Arizona yesterday.

Meet Maricopa County Recorder Helen Purcell-- who oversees the polls in the heart of Joe Arpaio country -- and who went ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ when confronted by a Fox reporter over 5 hour waits in the Arizona sun to cast a vote in a primary.

For the 2012 primaries, Maricopa County accommodated 300,000 voters at 200 polling places. Yet, despite a heated primary with Bernie Sanders increasing his presence in the state and stubby-fingered buffoon Donald Trump turning the GOP primary into a WWE event -- but with less class -- Purcell reduced polling locations by 70 percent to 60.

The result, as AZ Central noted, was the last vote was cast just after midnight in Maricopa County which encompasses Phoenix.

According to earlier estimate Tuesday night, about 800,000 people headed for those 60 poll locations with predictable results including voters giving up and going home.

While that disaster was unfolding, Purcell calmly stood before a Fox reporter and gave a master class in buck-passing and "mistakes were made" and blame shifting and petulance which began with blaming the voters.

I kid you not.  It was the first thing out of her mouth.

"Just to start, obviously you've heard of all the frustration. Who is to blame for this, these long lines?" Purcell was asked.

"Well, the voters for getting in line, maybe us for not having enough voting places," she replied.

No.

No. No. No. No. No.

The answer should have been, "We totally blew it, we didn't anticipate the surge in voter interest that has been created by a fevered press turning our election into a carnival freakshow, and we are terribly sorry and -- as God is my witness -- we will have a shitload of polling places open in November. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I have disgraced myself and my office-- I had one goddam job to do and I failed miserably at it."

That is what she should have said -- using "shitload" optional.

What is even more amazing is she takes time to pat herself and her office on the back, when asked, "When you look back on this, is this going to be a failure of your office?"

"I don't think so," Purcell replies. "When you get people out to vote, is that a failure? I don't think so."

You didn't build that -- the candidates did -- you derailed it.

Resign, Helen Purcell -- you are terrible at your job.
