WATCH: Body-cam footage busts cops for lying about beating citizen during littering stop

The Miami-Dade Police Department is being sued for allegedly beating a man, abusing their authority and then lying about assault, CBS Miami reports.

Ephraim Casado was pulled over by detectives for littering in March of 2017 and his lawyer says he was assaulted after exiting his vehicle with his hands raised.

"Immediately after he's pulled over, they yanked him out and threw him in the back of his own car," said attorney Igor Hernandez. "And then they proceed to punch him in the face several times."

"You punched me," Casada can be heard protesting in body-camera footage.

"You're f*cking right I did," the officer replied.

The attorney went on to blast the cover-up.

"It was clear to us that they did what they did because they thought they could get away with it," Hernandez said. "They beat him because they could. They lied about it because they could, and then their whole take on it was, 'What are you gonna do about it?'"

Hernandez came to the conclusion after reading a memo by prosecutors.

Former assistant to State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle wrote that she “…reviewed the body worn camera footage and was troubled by what I saw. It is my belief that those officers were less than truthful about the actual events that occurred.”

Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez claimed there "were inconsistencies or inaccuracies in the memorandum."

None of the officers involved will face disciplinary action and none have been criminally charged.

Casada was also not charged with littering, which had allegedly precipitated the traffic stop, which his attorney found to be of particular note.

“That’s an interesting portion of this, that the thing that they said that he did, which led to the stop, is not something that they even charged him for,” the victim's attorney observed.
