WATCH: Democratic congressman bursts into laughter at prospect of getting his hands on Trump's tax returns

Appearing on MSNBC on Saturday afternoon, a Democratic lawmaker failed to contain his glee at what his party will do with Donald Trump's tax returns they plan to subpoena should the Democrats take control of the House in November.

Speaking with MSNBC host Alex Witt, Rep. John Yarmouth (D-KY) was asked about the recent revelations about the Trump family's tax avoidance schemes as well as a recent report that Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner possibly failed to pay federal income taxes for seven years.

With host Witt saying House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) vowed to release Trump's tax returns, should her party take the House, she asked, "How can you make public the president's tax returns? Can you do that?"

"Well, I don't know if we can make them public, but there is a mechanism whereby the [House] Ways and Means committee can request the returns and are entitled to get them," Yarmouth replied. "I don't know the specifics as to whether there is a presumption of confidentiality attached to that, but I know they can get access to the returns."

"Look, if Congress gets ahold of them, they'll be public, right?" Witt asked, causing the Democrat to smirk and then laugh.

"No question about that, absolutely," he promised while still chortling. " You know, when you look at what's happened recently with the Saudis and what we have seen on an ongoing basis, the American people need to know exactly the extent of President Trump's ties to these countries., there's a serious question whether he's been compromised by these considerations."
