WATCH: LAPD cop kicks and punches a black suspect while he's already pinned to the ground

A new video has emerged of an incident that took place in 2014 that shows a Los Angeles police officer kicking and punching a black suspect repeatedly while he's pinned to the ground.

Per the New York Daily News, the video shows security camera footage of the arrest of Clinton Alford Jr., who was arrested in October 2014 and who now faces charges for pimping, rape and assault with a deadly weapon.

Of particular interest here are the actions of Officer Richard Garcia, who arrived on the scene shortly after his fellow officers had stopped Alford and had brought him to the ground.

Immediately after walking up to Alford, Garcia gives the suspect a swift kick to the head. He then proceeds to punch him in the head and elbow him in the back several times -- all while he's still lying on the ground and has appeared to have surrendered.

The New York Daily News notes that under a plea deal reached this past May, Garcia "pleaded no contest to misdemeanor assault and was spared jail time" and "was given probation, community service and told to stay away from Alford and donate $500 to charity."

LAPD Chief Charlie Beck had tried to keep video of the incident under wraps, although he did condemn the officer's actions.
