Michael Zeldin, a former assistant to now-special counsel Robert Mueller, explained how and why Donald Trump's adviser/son-in-law Jared Kushner may be implicated in former White House aide Michael Flynn's testimony.
Kushner, CNN host Brianna Keilar noted to Zeldin, worked "very closely" on the campaign and early in the Trump administration with Flynn.
"Should he be concerned that Flynn spoke at such length with the special counsel?" she asked Mueller's former assistant from his time at the Justice Department's criminal division.
There could be cause for concern, Zeldin responding, "depending on what Kushner has said when he's been interviewed by Congress and elsewhere."
"We know from Mueller if you lie to him or you lie to government generally," the analyst added, "you're going to get charged with a crime."
Though the public doesn't know what Kushner told Congressional investigations, Zeldin noted, they do know what he, national security adviser K.T. McFarland and Flynn did while working on the Trump transition team -- "engaged in communications with Russians and others around the UN, around the Palestinian settlements issue."
"If Mueller feels that there was misstatements by them or that they've somehow obstructed something to do with his investigation, then maybe they have something to worry about," he concluded. "But it's pretty speculative at this point."
