WATCH: Paul Manafort whines that 'nobody is acknowledging' the 'respect' Trump has shown the Khans

It looks like the Trump campaign will just not let the story of Trump's feud with the Khan family fade away.

Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort told George Stephanopoulos that his candidate hasn't gotten the credit he deserves for praising the sacrifice not only of late Army Capt. Humayun Khan, but also of his parents Khizr and Ghazala Khan.

"I think Mr. Trump has paid his respect, it's just that nobody is acknowledging it," Manafort said after being asked whether Trump should apologize to the Khan family. "What he has said is that he respects and he sympathizes with the sacrifices that family has made. And he's talking about the son and he's talking about the family."

In reality, Trump noted that Ghazala Khan didn't speak during the Democratic National Convention and questioned whether it was because her husband wouldn't have "allowed" her to do so.

He also questioned whether "Hillary's scriptwriters" wrote Khizr Khan's speech at the DNC and complained about being "viciously attacked" by him.

At any rate, Stephanopoulos pressed Manafort about this issue and asked if Trump had hoped to move on from the controversy without issuing a formal apology. Manafort indicated that no apology would be forthcoming.

"I mean, just because he doesn't say the words that everybody wants, he's said he's sorry for what they've gone through, but he keeps going back to the main issue, which isn't this family," Manafort said.
