WATCH: Police take down drunk and angry off-duty cop who slurred them as n**gers

A Hartford, CT police detective was caught on video threatening members of the Plainville police when he was pulled over for driving under the influence.

According to WFSB-TV, Det. Robert Lanza let fly with several racial and ethnic slurs during the arrest, video of which was released on Tuesday by the Plainville Police Department.

"You're a ni**er," Lanza said in the 30-minute video as an officer tried to determine whether he was too inebriated to drive.

Lanza -- an 11-year veteran of the Hartford Police -- was pulled over on Route 72 in Plainville on Aug. 27 after reports he was driving erratically. Officers say he appeared unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol. He refused to take sobriety tests and was charged with driving while intoxicated and interfering with an officer.

"I know the game I've been a cop for 19 years I know the game," Lanza told officers. "Take me in right now. Take you in for what. What am I gonna take you in for? Cause obviously. I know the game. I got money. I'm a cop."

Tensions escalated and ultimately the arresting officers were forced to put the 44-year-old Lanza on the ground to put him in handcuffs and take him into custody. He is due in court later this month, said WFSB.

Hartford Deputy Police Chief Brian Foley said, "It's not something that we like to see and we expect a little bit more from our officers."

Foley went on to say that he hopes the public will not judge his entire department by the actions of one intoxicated officer.

"When something like this happens, it creates fractures. And this is what we're looking to minimize and this is why we have been so up front with our community with what's going on with this. We hopefully will give them what they want and that is transparency and accountability," said Foley.
