It's pretty obvious that Melania Trump's speech to the RNC on Monday evening swiped large chunks from a speech Michelle Obama delivered at the 2008 Democratic National Convention -- watch this video if you need proof.

A normal campaign would apologize for this and hold the person responsible for the plagiarism accountable. The Trump campaign, however, is not a normal campaign.

Appearing on CNN Tuesday morning, Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort completely denied that Melania Trump's speech plagiarized Michelle Obama's, and even blamed Hillary Clinton for igniting the controversy.

"There's no cribbing of Michelle Obama's speech," he said. "I mean, these were common words and values... I mean, she was speaking in front of 35 million people last night, she knew that. To think that she would be cribbing Michelle Obama's words is crazy."

It wasn't just commonly used words and phrases, however, as entire sentences were lifted word for word from Obama's 2008 address.

Despite this, Manafort tried to deflect the blame where it truly belonged: Onto Hillary Clinton.

"This is, once again, an example of what happens when a woman threatens Hillary Clinton," he said. "She seeks to demean her and take her down. It's not going to work."
