Conservative Matt Schlapp on Tuesday flailed wildly when he tried to defend President Donald Trump's habit of believing anyone who gives him a "firm" or "strong" denial to accusations of wrongdoing.

While discussing the president's response to the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, CNN's Alisyn Camerota played Schlapp a supercut of Trump buying into denials from multiple dictators, as well as from former campaign chairman and current convicted felon Paul Manafort.

"So often the president seems to accept really kind of ludicrous denials, including from Putin, including from Kim Jong-un," she said and then played a clip of Trump believing denials of everyone from Putin to disgraced former Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore.

"I don't even want to put people like Paul Manafort and Roy Moore into this conversation," he replied. "Let's talk about his diplomacy overseas. What presidents do... is they try to build a relationship with important people. I think the Putin press conference where most people watching it were just like, 'Come on, you've got to hit him a bit on this.' I think that was a big mistake."

Schlapp then said that Trump sucking up to North Korea's Kim Jong-un had "pushed him further along" toward disarming nuclear weapons, even though Kim still has not taken any concrete steps toward shutting down his nuclear program.

And Schlapp then admitted that the jury is still out on whether Trump's approach to dealing with Saudi Arabia would bear fruit -- and said he didn't know whether his stance toward the Saudis was the right one.
