'Weird -- just weird': MSNBC host Ali Velshi stunned by Kanye's Oval Office rant

President Donald Trump and rap mogul Kanye West chaired a joint press conference today.

Afterwards, cable analysts wondered about the president's thinking and intent on issues such as gun violence in Chicago and prison reform.

MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle wondered if the president was trying to outdo President Obama—and on his home turf, of Chicago. Ruhle also suggested that if the President's strange alliance with West produces a positive outcome, maybe it's worth it (that view is shared by many criminal justice reformers who do not want to wait for a Democrat in office before pursuing prison reform).

But co-host Ali Velshi appeared too stricken by the bizarre spectacle of the presser to be as charitable as Ruhle, and pointed out that real policy discussion was a very small part of the conference.

"Weird. Weird," Velshi said. "That was just weird."
