'We’ve taken over the right': Gay Trump fans and neo-Nazis bond at RNC over mutual hatred of Muslims

Believe it or not, the Republican National Convention is actually becoming more welcoming to gay people.

There's a catch, of course: To be a part of the club, you have to be anti-Muslim.

Both BuzzFeed and Rolling Stone report that gay Republican group GOProud organized a big party at the RNC this week that brought together not only gay Republicans, both also notorious anti-Muslim blogger Pam Geller and prominent white nationalists Richard Spencer and Peter Brimelow for a big Muslim-bashing hate fest.

Also among the guests was far-right Dutch politician Geert Wilders, who told the crowd that only talking about "radical Islam" as the enemy is being too politically correct. Instead, he said we should recognize that all Muslims are our enemies.

"We should acknowledge that Islam is the problem," he said, per Rolling Stone. "Anywhere in the West, if you allow Islam to be planted on your soil, don't be afraid that you will harvest sharia law, because Islam and sharia law [are] exactly the same."

Also on hand was notorious "alt-right" performance artist Milo Yiannopoulos, who said that the Republican Party is the one that's truly fighting for the rights of gay people, despite the fact that it's been predominantly Democratic activists and politicians who have pushed causes such as repealing the ban on gay people in the military and legalizing gay marriage.

"I’m not the only one who recognizes that a Republican candidate, that Donald Trump is the most pro-gay candidate in American electoral history," he said.

The reason Trump is "pro-gay," in his telling, is not because of the work he's done on traditional LGBT issues. Rather, it's his proposed ban on Muslims entering the country that has transformed Trump into a gay folk hero.

"[Liberals] have done nothing for gays," he said. "While you were busy hectoring and bullying and nannying us about transgender pronouns, you completely forgot that politicians in this country were welcoming in a religion that wants us dead."

As BuzzFeed notes, infamous white nationalist and Trump fan Richard Spencer was at the confab and he couldn't believe how far people who share his views have come over the past eight years.

“It’s amazing,” Spencer said, according to BuzzFeed. “We’ve taken over the right.”
