Wheel of Fortune's 'Southern Charm Week' features illustration of slaves

Long-running game show "Wheel of Fortune" is celebrating "Southern Charm Week" this week, but stirred up controversy by including an illustration of a plantation house with slaves in front of it.

The New York Daily News showed a photo still from "Wheel of Fortune" that showed co-hosts Pat Sajack and Vanna White posing in front of a backdrop photo of a mansion with two black women walking by dressed in slave-era clothing.

"Someone please tell me why @WheelofFortune has slaves in their 'Southern Charm Week' images?" asked Twitter user Joshua Itiola.

Another user wrote, "This is also absolutely ridiculous. Wtf is happening to our country????"

The Daily News said that the photo was taken at Oak Alley Plantation in Vacherie, Louisiana. A spokeswoman for Oak Alley said that the plantation has never featured actors dressed as slaves, raising the question of whether or not "Wheel of Fortune" producers photoshopped the slave women into the photo themselves.

"Wheel of Fortune" declined to comment to the Daily News for this story. The show ran its "Southern Charm Week" shows originally in March, but reruns of the popular game show are common.
