White House staffers snapping at each other as Trump's shutdown forces them to fill-in for 'non-essential' furloughed aides

According to a report on how the White House is dealing with President Donald Trump's government shutdown until he gets his border wall funding, Politico reports that some aides are upset that they are having to fill in for some of their furloughed peers who were deemed "non-essential" and sent home without pay.

While Trump keeps up a steady drumbeat of tweets blaming the shutdown on the Democrats -- despite previously saying he would proudly own it on national TV when speaking with Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) -- insiders at the White House are seeing their workloads increase due to depleted staffing.

Politico reports, "The limited staff and extra hours make for an unpleasant atmosphere inside the West Wing, according to one White House official who experienced two shutdowns during his tenure."

According to the source who asked not to be identified, "At the end of the day, you can’t make up the work of 25 of your other co-workers who were told to go home.”

The White House insider also said there was anger and sadness when some of the furloughed staffers were told they were considered "non-essential staff."

“There’s a lot of hurt feelings when people are deemed non-essential,” the source confessed.
