White supremacist murder suspect wants his racist internet history blocked from his hate crime trial

An alleged white supremacist who killed a black student is seeking to have his racist internet history removed from evidence because his attorneys consider it "irrelevant" to the case.

The Washington Post reported that attorneys for Sean Urbanski, the man charged with killing Bowie State University student Richard Collins III on the University of Maryland campus last year, filed a motion Monday to bar evidence linking their client to the "Alt-Reich: Nation" Facebook page and other "particularly offensive" pages.

Lawyers William C. Brennan Jr. and John M. McKenna wrote in their motion that the content they believe the state wishes to use against their client is "particularly offensive, extremely prejudicial, highly inflammatory, irrelevant and not otherwise admissible."

"The evidence Urbanski’s lawyers seek to bar from trial would appear to have a key role in whether prosecutors can prove to a jury that Collins’s slaying was racially motivated," the Post noted.

On May 20, 2017, Urbanski stabbed 23-year-old Collins with a folding knife in what was described as an unprovoked attack. The victim "had just been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army and was days away from graduating from Bowie State University when he was killed," the report continued.
