White vacationers complain woman 'ruined our whole trip' to Statue of Liberty by protesting family separations

NBC New York spoke to a group of white vacationers who complained that their vacation was "ruined" by a woman staging a protest at the Statue of liberty.

For nearly three hours on the Fourth of July, a woman scaled the Statue of Liberty and refused to leave in order to protest President Donald Trump's policy of separating immigrant children from their family. Although Trump has said he temporarily halted the family separation policy, the woman said that she would not come down until all families were reunited.

The woman was later identified as Therese Patricia Okoumou, a black activist affiliated with the pro-immigrant group Rise and Resist.

A group of vacationers told the NBC station that they had to be evacuated from the park over the protest.

"We didn't even spend more than 10 minutes there," one woman said. "It was just nothing."

One man accused Okoumou of ruining his vacation.

"I think there's a right way of protesting, a legal way of protesting," he said. "And she just ruined our whole trip!"
