Trump and Harris consider 60 Minutes interviews that would air on same day: report

Instead of a second debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump next month — the 2024 presidential candidates are considering 60 Minutes interviews, according to an Axios exclusive report.

Per Axios, the interviews would "air back-to-back on October 7 as a campaign grand finale."

Although Harris agreed to debate against the MAGA leader once again on October 23, Trump declared during a Saturday, September 21 rally in North Carolina, "that it made no sense to debate again because it's 'too late.'"

Journalist Lynn Sweet responded to the former president's excuse during a Sunday morning CNN interview.

"The first debate in 2020 was September 29th, the second was in October," she said. "The whole point of a debate is to make it possible for you to be elected president of the United States, it's not for entertainment value or any other calculation, it doesn't matter who gets the last word."

The 60 Minutes appearances "would give the campaigns one last mass audience, 29 days before Election Day," Axios notes.

"I'm confident that this is going to work," 60 Minutes executive produces Bill Owens told the Associated Press last week, according to Axios. "For either campaign, it wouldn't be a great look if they turned down an opportunity to be on '60 Minutes.'"
