Wisconsin Repub uses official YouTube channel to push conversion message to non-Christians

A Republican state lawmaker from Wisconsin is being called into question for using his party's official YouTube channel to deliver a message asking non-Christian viewers to convert to his religion, the Friendly Atheist reported.

"For those who may watch this who are not Christians, I invite you to consider the hope offered by the Prince of Peace," state Rep. Scott Allen (R) says in the video, which was posted on the Wisconsin Assembly Republicans YouTube channel earlier this month.

Allen quotes a pair of biblical verses in the video, including Hebrews 10:39 which states, "We are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved." He is also seen standing in front of a picture of a Christmas tree inside the state Capitol rotunda.

According to the Associated Press, the Freedom from Religion Foundation has contacted state Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R), accusing Allen of proselytizing in his message, and demanding to see documentation related to the video's production to see if state resources were used in the process.

"While Allen is free to promote his personal religious beliefs on his own time, it is inappropriate to do so when he is afforded a special platform due to his elected position," the foundation said in a letter to Vos. "Using state resources to promote one particular religion, and suggesting that people should convert or even consider converting to that religion, is unconstitutional."
