A New York woman was issued a $115 fine for breastfeeding in a car, reports WABC-TV.
Guillermina Rodriguez was trying to feed her 3-month-old daughter while stuck in a massive traffic jam in Manhattan.
"I'm like almost crying because she's crying, and all I want to do is pull over so I can tend to her," Rodriguez told WABC-TV.
As she tried to tend to her daughter, an officer and a tow truck operator attempted to move her vehicle. She honked to make them stop. They did not tow the car, but they did give her a ticket. She tried to explain herself but it didn't work.
"I showed him the baby and obviously my breast," she said. "I'm like, 'I'm breast-feeding the baby.' He looks and then he just puts the ticket down, and he walks away."
She reported the incident to a breastfeeding rights group, whose spokeswoman denounced the officer's actions.
"As a society, we need to hear babies crying and answer them. And I don't think she deserves a ticket for that," La Leche League spokesperson Laura Beth Gilman told WABC-TV.
"I think she deserves understanding, and the police officer should have said, 'Sure, I'll give you a couple of minutes."
