President Donald Trump drew confusion from broadcasters at the World Cup Final in New York Sunday when he lingered during the trophy presentation ceremony following Spain's 1-0 victory over Argentina.
Trump accompanied FIFA President Gianni Infantino onto the field and remained present for the team photo, catching Infantino off guard. As Trump stood on stage with confetti cannons firing and the Spanish team hoisting the trophy, an SBS Australia broadcaster, Claudio Fabiano, expressed bewilderment on a hot mic.
Fabiano asked, "Are they going to edit him out of that?"
Trump was loudly booed as he and Infantino walked onto the field.
The incident mirrors Trump's previous awkward appearance at the FIFA Club World Cup trophy ceremony with Chelsea last year, which similarly baffled team members and raised questions about his uninvited presence at ceremonial moments.
