'The Dems have gone stone cold crazy!' Trump rampages against his hometown enemy

President Donald Trump continued his barrage of attacks against New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani on Thursday, calling the rising star in the Democratic Party a “communist,” and insulting Democrats as having gone “stone cold crazy.”

“Best thing that could happen to the Republican Party?” Trump wrote in an online post on his social media platform Truth Social. “A Communist Mayor in NYC. The Dems have gone stone cold CRAZY!”

Trump has ramped up his attacks on Mamdani in recent weeks, frequently attacking the mayoral candidate as a “communist,” despite Mamdani denying the label and instead identifying as a Democratic socialist, as does Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT).

Last month, Trump all but confirmed his intention to sway the New York City mayoral election, with subsequent reporting alleging that Trump had offered incumbent New York City Mayor Eric Adams – who has since dropped out of the race amid corruption scandals and plummeting poll numbers – a job in his administration in exchange for dropping out.

Trump’s alleged ploy to force Adams out of the race was an apparent attempt to bolster the chances of Mamdani’s next-highest polling opponent, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who had already been defeated by Mamdani in the Democratic primary election, and resigned as governor amid sexual harassment allegations.

The White House’s frequent attacks on Mamdani have appeared to have backfired, however, with a senior advisor to Mamdani revealing Wednesday that such attacks have largely bolstered Mamdani’s support among New York City voters.
