Wisconsin Republican Rep. Paul Ryan is reportedly not considering a run for the U.S. Senate seat now occupied by Senator Herb Kohl (D-WI).
Sources close to Ryan told POLITICO's David Catanese that the congressman was unlikely to run for the Senate seat.
Ryan, the House Budget Committee chairman, said he would make his decision public sometime this week.
Seventy-six-year old Kohl announced Friday that he will not seek reelection to a fifth term in the Senate, saying that it's "time for someone else to serve."
Reps. Tammy Baldwin and Ron Kind, ousted Sen. Russ Feingold, and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett are potential Democratic candidates for the seat.
A March survey by the Democratic-affiliated Public Policy Polling found Feingold leading Ryan in a head-to-head race by 49 to 42 percent.
