Newt Gingrich: Glitter bombing is clearly assault

Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R) is no fan of a tactic that has come to be known as "glitter bombing." In May, he became the first 2012 presidential candidate to be for his opposition to same sex marriage.

At the time, he brushed off the incident, saying, "It's nice to live in a free country." But now he doesn't view the act is harmless prank.

“Glitter bombing is clearly an assault and should be treated as such,” Gingrich said in an e-mail to the New York Times.

"When someone reaches into a bag and throws something on you, how do you know if it is acid or something that stains permanently or something that can blind you? People have every right to their beliefs but no right to assault others.”

Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R) and former Minnosota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) were also targets of glitter bombs in June.
