The father of the trader charged over an alleged $2 billion fraud at Swiss bank UBS said Saturday he was preparing to fly to London to be with his son, whom he described as a "man of integrity".

John Adoboli, the father of 31-year-old trader Kweku Adoboli, urged the world not to judge him too quickly.

"The whole family is shattered, devastated and surprised at the same time," the retired United Nations staff officer said in an interview from Ghana broadcast on Sky News television.

"I wish to assure the whole world that Kweku Adoboli is a man of integrity. I want the world to have an open mind, I don't want the world to judge him before he reaches the court.

"I am readying myself to get a visa to travel to London as soon as possible in order to give him moral support."

Kweku Adoboli appeared in court on Friday accused of fraud and two charges of false accounting, one of which dates from 2008 to 2009. He was remanded in custody until his next hearing on September 22.
