Georgia college students aiming to vote in November face a unique set of hurdles

When students at Emory University registered to vote this year, they were faced with two main campus options for guidance: The Emory Votes Initiative, a university-administered program for nonpartisan voter education, or Emory Young Democrats, a student-run club and chapter of the Young Democrats of Georgia.

Georgia’s Young Republicans don’t have a chapter at Emory.

'Most of us are pretty disgusted with Trump': Haley supporters ignoring her endorsement

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley's endorsement of Donald Trump as the Republican presidential nominee has not turned into a windfall of voters that the former president might have hoped for.

According to a report from Politico's Meridith McGraw, Lisa Kashinsky and Natalie Allison, a substantial number of supporters of the South Carolina Republican felt they had good reason to back her over Trump and her endorsement did little to change their minds.

Ohio Secretary of State’s new ballot drop off requirements challenged in new lawsuit

Two Ohioans and the state Democratic party are challenging a newly devised policy for returning absentee ballots. They argue Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose’s directive requiring people to fill out an attestation when returning someone else’s ballot amounts to making “new requirements and voting restrictions out of whole cloth.”

At the end of July, a federal judge ruled that Ohio’s narrow list of family members legally allowed to return an absentee ballot on behalf of a relative would have to go — at least for disabled voters. Federal law guarantees people with disabilities can get help from anyone they want as long as it’s not their employer or union rep.

Number of Arizona voters affected by citizenship proof ‘glitch’ grows to 218,000

State elections officials have identified another 120,000 Arizona voters who are improperly registered to vote because of a glitch in the state’s driver’s license database, bringing the total number of affected voters to 218,000 — a number that may grow as officials continue to identify more longtime voters who were never required to provide proof of citizenship.

The glitch, which was first discovered two weeks ago, found that about 98,000 Arizonans who had registered to vote in the past 20 years had been inaccurately labeled as having provided proof of citizenship.

‘Florida is in play’ Democrats say as poll shows multiple close races

Several Florida Democratic Party officials insist the Sunshine State is in play, and not just in the presidential race. "Trump leads Harris by 2.1%, and Scott leads Mucarsel-Powell by 0.8%," according to Victory Insights, which released the poll Monday. Trump is beating Harris 46.9% to 44.9%, with just over eight percent still undecided.

Trump walks away muttering ‘take a look’ when asked to prove aid denial for Helene victims

Just days after Hurricane Helene pummeled the Southeastern United States, Donald Trump flew to Valdosta, Georgia for a campaign trip. More than 130 people are dead, and first responders from across the country have traveled to help in areas hardest hit. The federal government's response has been extensive, with FEMA, the Federal Communications Commission, the National Guard, the Army Corps of Engineers, and the U.S. Department of Defense all on the ground.

Critics blasted the ex-president for his "photo-op." Some noted someone took bricks from a collapsed furniture store to create a make-shift podium area for Trump.

Four top Virginia GOP officials ousted for not supporting Trump-approved candidate

In a sign of deepening divisions among Republicans in Virginia’s 5th Congressional District, at least four members of the district’s 37-member GOP Committee, including the vice chair, were ousted over the weekend, and another resigned after refusing to sign renewed loyalty pledges for state Sen. John McGuire, R-Goochland, the party’s nominee.

The four purged members and the resignee were among 25 Republican officials who in early June signed an open letter urging former President Donald Trump to reconsider his endorsement of McGuire, advocating instead for Trump’s support of U.S. Rep. Bob Good, R-Farmville, the incumbent.

Tonight's debate — and the mistake that could cost Trump everything

LAWRENCE — The debate between vice presidential candidates Tim Walz and J.D. Vance on Tuesday could offer an unusually consequential blend of policy provocation, personal attack and rhetorical flair given the tight presidential race with a month left in the campaign.

Robert Rowland, a University of Kansas professor of communication studies who has written extensively about political messaging, said during a recording of the Kansas Reflector podcast that Vance and Walz would be assigned similar tasks of avoiding a humiliating stumble and making people a bit more comfortable with them in the No. 2 spot on the Republican and Democratic tickets.
