'Disqualifies himself': Veterans blast Trump for 'disrespectful' remarks about war heroes

Donald Trump sparked an outcry from military veterans and many others by proclaiming that the civilian Presidential Medal of Freedom as "better" than the Medal of Honor for military valor.

The Republican presidential nominee praised Miriam Adelson, the widow of the late GOP megadonor Sheldon Adelson, during a speech Thursday evening at his New Jersey golf resort, where he recalled awarding her the civilian honor after the couple had poured millions of dollars into his first campaign.

In his second visit to Pennsylvania since becoming the GOP nominee for vice president, U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) on Thursday continued his criticism of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s military record at a VFW hall in Westmoreland County.

“We’re not attacking his honorable service,” Vance told the invitation-only gathering at VFW Post 92 in Lower Burrell. “We’re attacking the dishonesty about that service that is not honorable, that is the height of dishonor, and Tim Walz should not be the vice president of the United States because of it.”

Nine GOP-led attorneys general sue Biden administration over voter registration efforts

Nine states, including Montana, are challenging an executive order by President Joe Biden that would enlist federal agencies to help register residents to vote, and those states say the order undermines their power to control elections, calling it federally subsidized program aimed at boosting Democratic and left-leaning blocs.

Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach and Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen filed the federal lawsuit in court in Wichita, Kansas. The nine states are Montana, Kansas, Iowa, South Dakota, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Carolina.

Donald Trump was holding a news conference Thursday afternoon at his golf course in New Jersey a day after his speech on the economy received criticism for going off the rails.

Trump's press event began with staff filling a table with what appeared to be different grocery items, namely cereal in the "giant size" or "family size," cookies and other bakery items, coffee, oranges and green apples. At least one bakery item appeared to be from Wegman's, a store well-known on the East Coast. At one point, a staffer appeared to carry in a pre-assembled doll house to set on another area away from the food items.
