Lauren Boebert's problems will haunt her in new district like Beetlejuice: analysis

GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert's decision to ditch her home district won't solve a problem likely to haunt the Colorado Republican like Beetlejuice, according to a new political analysis.

The Independent's John Bowden argued on Thursday that the firebrand's flight to Colorado's District 4 — and away from two well-funded competitors in District 3 — does not mean Boebert will face an easy campaign in 2024.

'Stop this farce': Haley buried for blaming a 'Democrat plant' for her Civil War disaster

During the slow news week between Christmas and New Year's Day, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley made herself the center of attention by being unable to answer a simple question about the primary cause of the Civil War.

15 Republicans with links to Jan. 6 to be targeted in 2024 Democratic onslaught

The Jan. 6 insurrection may have taken place nearly three years ago, but Democrats are not letting it go and will target 15 Republican lawmakers who took part or have ties to the attempt to subvert the 2020 result as the 2024 election season kicks into gear.

Among the candidates with targets on their backs is Pennsylvania state Sen. Doug Mastriano, who faltered badly in his bid to be Pennsylvania's governor in 2022, and Texas state Sen. Angela Paxton, whose husband is Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

According to a report from the Daily Beast's Jake Lahut, Democratic strategists see an opening to pick up seats at the national and state level in 2024 when Trump, with all of his baggage, likely will be on the ballot.

The report notes that the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee has identified 15 state lawmakers who made their way to Washington, D.C. for the "Stop the Steal" rally, with five reportedly ending up on the Capitol grounds.

One of them is Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-WI) who made it to Congress in 2022, even after being caught saying he never breached the Capitol grounds despite posting pictures of himself on social media showing that wasn't true.

The report states, "10 active state lawmakers identified by the DLCC were: Janae Shamp of Arizona — who was on the Lower West Terrace of the Capitol — Chris Miller of Illinois, Luana Stoltenberg of Iowa, Matt Maddock of Michigan, John Block of New Mexico, Donnie Loftis of North Carolina, Donna Henderson of North Dakota, and Mike Azinger of West Virginia and Bob Ide of Wyoming—both of whom marched to the Capitol. John McGuire, a senator-elect in Virginia who is also challenging Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) for a congressional seat, was also present on Jan. 6."

According to DLCC President Heather Williams, concerns about Trump likely being the GOP presidential nominee combined with another contested election is the greatest concern.

“Democracy itself is on the line in the states in 2024. If we do not win state legislatures, Republicans have already shown they will try to overturn the election for Trump,” she explained.
