'Circling the drain': Ex-GOP lawmaker warns Trump's brain is 'decomposing by the hour'

Former Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-VA), who earlier on Friday gave a withering review of former President Donald Trump's appearance at the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner, took to Twitter shortly afterward to speculate on whether his performance was a sign of cognitive decline.

In her post, Comstock linked to a video of Trump "slurring" his way through his speech at the dinner and then wondered whether performances such as this were the reason he has been canceling interviews constantly over the last several weeks.

'Something is off' with Trump after new report that he's 'exhausted': former associate

Reacting to an early morning report from Politico Playbook that Donald Trump is nixing interviews because he is "exhausted," one of the former president's longtime associates dating back to his days as a Manhattan real estate developer told an MSNBC panel that something is up.

Appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," branding expert Donnie Deutsch called the news alarming for the Trump campaign.

According to Politico, the former president's people alerted the hosts of The Shade Room podcast that, Trump is “exhausted and refusing [some] interviews but that could change.” In lieu of Trump, the hosts were reportedly offered Trump supporter Waka Flocka Flame as an alternative.

As MSNBC host Jonathan Lemire told the panel, "Let's get you in on this, the Playbook just now talks about how Trump has been canceling interviews. They've got reporting that he was in sit-down conversation with a podcast called 'The Shade.' The people at the podcast say that the reason why Trump's campaign said he'd have to cancel it was, indeed, exhaustion, which the Trump campaign now disputes. But they have multiple sources saying that's why they were told they can't do it."

That led Deutsch to interject, "I think people really should focus on his state of strength, state of weakness, state of well-being, of non-well-being."

"Something is off," he added before elaborating, "He is addicted to crowds, to media, and he is pulling back. They're seeing something internally, and they're feeling something. I think the spotlight should be on that."

'Dangerous news': Ducked events lead to 'a new sense of unease in Trump's inner circle'

Donald Trump's sudden disinterest in making appearances before friendly crowds or interviewers has made his closest advisers worried about his re-election prospects, reports MSNBC host Jonathan Lemire.

Appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Lemire noted that Trump has been blanket canceling public appearances at an alarming rate, which is curious since there is so little time before voters head to the polls.

During a discussion with branding expert Donnie Deutsch, Lemire stated, "Let's talk about where things stand right now, up front, the race is close. It is basically a tie, but there does seem to be some slight shifts in momentum. A few weeks ago, Democrats, you heard it, I heard it, we reported it, were nervous about Harris –– she's not doing enough, she's not out there, she's not campaigning. It's all changed: the media blitz, now she's barnstorming across the country. Now, Trump is the one who has really pulled back, canceling interviews left and right. And there seems to be a new sense of unease coming from the inner circle."

"It is interesting, exactly as you said," Deutsch agreed. "You feel the campaigns –– it's within the 48-yard lines obviously –– but you feel it going like this. "

"In the last few days, as Trump disappeared, or at best sways to music, you've got to ask the question: is there something wrong with him?" he continued. "I mean he really seems to have kind of just literally backed off. He canceled NBC, he didn't do '60 Minutes.' He's probably cancelling a town hall. He seems to be trying to run out the clock and that is dangerous news."

'Who does that?' Trump condemned for 'swearing in front of priests' at Catholic dinner

Donald Trump took off-color and occasionally profane shots at Kamala Harris and her husband at the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner, where political leaders have traded jabs for decades — but a former Republican lawmaker said this speech felt different.

The Republican presidential nominee made several transphobic jokes about Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), insulted the intelligence of Harris and President Joe Biden, and passed on the opportunity to make self-deprecating jokes — and instead wallowed in self-pity.
