'Sarah Palinesque': Analyst says J.D. Vance is dragging Trump down
Former President Donald Trump is seeing his campaign dragged down by his choice of running mate, explained Fordham University political science professor Christina Greer on Monday's edition of MSNBC's "The Beat."
This comes after the Trump campaign has endured weeks of attacks that Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), who has called for total abortion bans and said the Democratic Party is run by "childless cat ladies," is "weird" — a criticism Vance himself has been forced to address.
"This is how Trump is starting the week," said anchor Ari Melber. "A lot of those quotes [on his campaign] were from people around him. What do you see in the campaign as we start the week?"
"As you reminded your audience, it's only been three weeks since Kamala Harris has elevated to the top of the ticket," said Greer. "It's been only six days since [Minnesota Gov. Tim] Walz was added to the ticket. It's small donations that can translate into votes because people are excited about this new race."

The upshot, she continued, is that "Donald Trump was saying, don't vote for the old guy. Biden stepped aside. And now Trump is saying, she's not that smart. That's not resonating with people who have been seeing her for several years. She has a very impressive resume. More impressive than people who have run for presidency. So his tactics aren't landing. He's scrambling."
But adding insult to injury, she added, "We also know, his choice of vice president is feeling very Sarah Palinesque. You know it's an impulse buy. So J.D. Vance isn't adding to the ticket or the base. So it's one unforced error after another. And we know Donald Trump spirals when things don't go his way."
