Trump put on notice what to expect if he dares take the stand in Stormy Daniels trial

Donald Trump's boast that he may testify in the Manhattan hush money trial beginning on Monday was greeted with no small amount of glee by a former Jan. 6 Committee investigator on Sunday morning.

During an appearance on MSNBC's "The Weekend," Marcus Childress claimed he was "praying and wishing" the former president would try to defend himself under oath for paying off adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016 because that would allow prosecutors from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg to corner him with follow-up questions that could take weeks to go through.

Speaking with the hosts, he explained, "Look, a lot of attorneys may not agree with Donald Trump taking the stand. If I'm a prosecutor on the case, I'm praying and wishing that he does'.'

"There are so many public statements, and as [former Trump attorney] Michael Cohen just said, Donald Trump's inability to tell the truth is so well documented that the cross-examination could last as long as voir dire when it comes to impeaching what the former president just said on direct," he stated.

"I don't think the chances of Donald Trump taking the stand are very high if he is following, I would say, a traditional more safe legal strategy," he added. "If I'm a prosecutor in this case, I am hoping and praying he does so that I can show the world exactly his character for truthfulness and impeach everything he just said prior during direct."

Trump is barrelling towards the 'worst day in his public life': former prosecutor

"As you noted, his lawyers have filed nine different motions to delay the trial with Judge Juan Merchan. They're trying to get around the law that they can't appeal until after the trial, that is what the Article 78 motion was about," he explained. " And the reason for that, Charles, is that Trump's defense is delay. But when he is actually brought to judgment, when his cases are heard on the merits, he loses all the time."

Former Trump lawyer blows a hole in ex-president's plan to testify at hush money trial

Donald Trump's boast that he would be more than willing to testify at his upcoming hush money trial was greeted by a great deal of skepticism by one of his former lawyers on Saturday morning.

During an extended interview on MSNBC's "The Weekend," former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen blew a hole in the idea that it would be a good thing for the former president to take the stand as he faces 34 felony counts related to paying off adult film star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election.

Speaking with the hosts, Cohen pointed out the simple fact that Trump is never a good witness when put under oath, but admitted he would enjoy it if the former president made good on his promise.

"First of all, he has to be there as a criminal defendant — he has to be there that is part of the process," he began. "But, the likelihood of Donald Trump being on the stand is equal to the likelihood of me waking up tomorrow 7'6" and playing center for the New York Knicks, it is not going to happen."

"How many times have we heard the same story again and again and again that, you know, ''I want to testify. Absolutely I'm going to. I'm going to tell the truth,'" he elaborated. "The one thing that, you know, every time Donald opens his mouth, you know that something non-truthful is coming out of it."

"We also know that he's not a good defendant, he's not a good witness," he continued. "We watched that with the E. Jean Carroll case, where he couldn't even identify E. Jean Carroll. and confused her with Marla Maples."

"He's not a good witness, he's not going to take the stand," he re-emphasized. "I hope that I'm wrong because I think that would be classic for America to be able to see Donald Trump on the witness stand trying to defend himself in a case that is indefensible."

'He's not even clear on what he's doing': New Trump stumble draws mental acuity concerns

Donald Trump's efforts to derail an extension of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) authority has drawn more concerns that he either doesn't know what he is talking about or he has grown more confused as he ages.

During a panel discussion on MSNBC's "The Weekend," co-host Symone Sanders-Townsend kicked off the conversation by noting that the former president used his Truth Social platform to rail against a provision of FISA and botched what he was opposing.

That led co-host Alicia Menendez to jump in and state, "He's trying to make this election about Joe Biden's mental acuity when in reality it is Donald Trump who continues to get confused about things."

"Then on Wednesday he writes: 'Kill FISA, it was used against me and others to spy on the campaign,'" she added.

"We have Fox News pointing out he confused section 702 with Title 1," she elaborated. "I mean, he's not even clear on what he's doing."

"He doesn't know," co-host Michael Steele interjected.

"He has no idea what he's talking about," former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) pointed out.
