'She's crossed the line again': Legal expert thinks Aileen Cannon may be in more trouble
Judge Aileen Cannon may have gone too far with a recent ruling in former President Donald Trump’s classified documents case and could potentially be yanked from overseeing it, according to the Obama administration’s ethics czar.
Attorney Norm Eisen on Monday condemned the order by Cannon, a Trump-appointed federal judge in Florida, that demanded special counsel Jack Smith’s unredacted witness lists be made public.
“It's the latest in a series of decisions that she has made that have caused observers to question whether she's biased in favor of the former president,” Eisen said during an appearance on CNN. "I think she's crossed that line again by exposing these witnesses to harm.”
Eisen noted Cannon’s decisions were twice overturned by an “extremely conservative” appellate court during Smith’s investigation of classified documents uncovered at Trump’s social club Mar-a-Lago.

“She tried to appoint a special master to oversee review of the documents,” Eisen explained. “The extremely conservative 11th Circuit that oversees her said, ‘No, that's illegal.’”
These former decisions are why Eisen admitted he wasn’t shocked by Cannon’s ruling on the redactions.
“It's not surprising, but it's disappointing,” Eisen said. “The judge is needlessly exposing these individuals to threats, harassment, and possibly grave danger.”
Eisen believes the Justice department could have grounds to demand another judge.
“We'll see whether DOJ appeals that or even tries to get her removed from the case,” he said.
