'Stunned' former Trump official alarmed by his 'lack of sharpness' at Iowa rally

During a CNN panel discussion on Donald Trump's twin rallies in Iowa on Saturday, former Trump White House official Alyssa Farah Griffin changed the subject from the former president's attacks on President Joe Biden to admit she was "stunned" by his delivery that lacked "sharpness."

Speaking with CNN "State of the Union" host Dana Bash, Farah Griffin agreed that Trump often uses projection to flip his faults onto others, but then turned to his demeanor as he spoke to the crowd.

After watching a clip of the former president in Iowa, she told the host, "It's kind of remarkable, I've been watching the clips from Trump's visit to Iowa and I'm stunned having spent a lot of time with him in 2020 and years before — he is slowing down."

"There's a lack of sharpness in what he's saying and a lack of kind of clarity," she elaborated. "There's clip where he basically says he's going to overturn Obamacare, but also says that he'll fix it — complete inconsistencies."

Trump has found himself trapped in a 'long slow defeat' in court: former prosecutor

During a panel discussion on the reinstatement of the gag order on Donald Trump in the $250 million Manhattan financial fraud trial, a former prosecutor bluntly stated that the former president is caught in a trap and that he knows it.

Speaking with MSNBC host Ayman Mohyeldin, legal analyst Renato Mariotti recalled trials he has been involved in and said a familiar pattern is emerging in Judge Arthur Engoron's courtroom.

"You mentioned a moment ago, Ayman, he is losing in court," the analyst explained. "In fact, I would call this basically a long, slow defeat for Trump."

Elaborating, he continued, "You know when we are prosecuting we used the term 'slow plea,' where somebody essentially is either pleading guilty and the defendant couldn't get their head around that and they would just essentially force the defense attorney to go through the motions but it would be a foregone conclusion."

"I think that is what is happening here," he added. "Trump is trying to get us talking about something else other than his pretty much inevitable defeat in this trial."

SNL's 'proud, gay thief' George Santos bids goodbye with 'Candle in the Wind' parody

Reprising for likely the last time his portrayal of recently unemployed former Rep. George Santos (R-NY), who was expelled from the House of Representatives on Friday as he faces criminal fraud charges, Saturday Night Live's Bowen Yang's Santos bid adieu to the press and America by gracing all with a parody version of Elton John's Marilyn Monroe homage, "Candle in the Wind."

As part of the late-night cold open, Yang's Santos started by complaining to assembled reporters, "This entire country has been bullying me just because I’m a proud, gay thief,” before adding “What else is new? America hates to see a Latina queen winning.”

"If I'm guilty of anything it's for loving too much — slash fraud," He added.

With a nod towards Santos' recent habit of carrying a baby around in the halls of Congress, SNL's Yang withdrew a swaddled babydoll from a piano midway through his farewell aria.

'No-brainer': Legal expert predicts Trump's 'weak argument' will be crushed by High Court

The lawyer was quoted warning about the "notion of the Republican nominee for president" might be kept from campaigning for the presidency because he is in court defending himself.

Legal expert singles out worst news for Trump after his immunity defense left in ruins

According to former Solicitor General Neal Katyal, Donald Trump's loss on Friday in an appeals court ruling on his presidential immunity defense claim was bad for the former president but what made it worse was who signed off on blowing it out of the water.

Appearing on MSNBC with host Jonathan Capehart, the legal analyst joked that the assertions by Trump lawyers that the president could commit illegal acts with impunity was so ridiculous a "fourth grader" could see through it, before pointing out that an appointee on the appeals court panel that ruled against him used to be one of Trump's top White House lawyers.

That, he noted, does not bode well for the future of the embattled ex-president as even more lawsuits loom.

Speaking with host Capehart, Katyal smirked and explained, "I think the average fourth grader can tell you attempting to overturn a lawful election doesn't exactly fall within the job description of the president."

"This appeals court yesterday made that important distinction official," he added.

"And, Jonathan, notably, on that appeals court was a judge, Judge [Gregory] Katsas," he pointed out, "who is not just a Trump appointee, he was Trump's deputy White House counsel, you know."

"So [he was] the number two lawyer at the White House and Katsas ruled against Donald Trump," he continued. "So, that tells you all you need to know. Trump can try to spin this as a bunch of Obama judges, but no, these are Trump judges."

'Huge opinion': Legal expert says Trump is in trouble after ruling that he's not a 'king'

Being U.S. president didn't anoint Trump with a crown.

In her retort to former President Donald Trump’s motion to dismiss his election interference charges on grounds of presidential immunity, Judge Tanya Chutkan denied in her Friday filing that his four years as leader of the free world didn’t entitle him to “the divine right of kings to evade the criminal accountability that governs his fellow citizens."
