Jamie Raskin nails DeSantis for pleading ignorance about anti-Semitism comments

Appearing on CNN's "State of the Union" moments after a combative Gov. Ron DeSantis went back and forth with host Jake Tapper over anti-Semitic comments made by Elon Musk, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) smirked and needled the Florida Republican for pleading ignorance.

When asked about the X owner seemingly agreeing with a poster who claimed Jews are trying to replace white Christians in America, DeSantis attempted to blow off the question by saying he wasn't aware of the exchange and the blowback that has been creating headlines for days as advertisers flee the social media platform.

Speaking with host Tapper, Raskin was skeptical that DeSantis was that much in the dark.

"The guy is running for president and Elon Musk did that on Wednesday," Raskin began. "It's Sunday. This is four days later, and he has not had the chance to read what Elon Musk wrote? That is very hard for me to believe."

"In any event, you showed it to him and he still chose to not condemn it," the Maryland Democrat continued. "If you're serious about condemning and confronting anti-semitism and racism and these bigotries, which are the gateway to the destruction of liberal democracy, you have got to be explicit and open and full-throated about it and denounce racism and extremism across the board."

Trump's new threat leads ex-RNC head to urge courts jail him immediately

Reacting to Donald Trump reposting a threat from one of his followers calling for the citizen's arrest of Judge Arthur Engoron and New York Attorney General Letitia James on his Truth Social account, former RNC chair Michael Steele told an MSNBC host the time has come to arrest and jail the former president.

Speaking with host Ayman Mohyeldin about yet another attack by the former president on the judge and AG, Steele bluntly stated, "Put his ass in jail," to send the former president a message.

In total, Steele exclaimed, "It's enormously dangerous. I just — I'm shocked that we have allowed this to get this far. I'm just going to use my best analysis that I can give you at this point on this situation with Trump, and the attacks on the judges: put his ass in jail. That's how you end it. That's how it stops."

"Now, yeah, people will be mad, they will be upset. But there is no other person on this planet, certainly not in this country, who would be given the kind of grace that Donald Trump has been given to run his mouth the way he has," he continued. "Attacking the clerks, attacking the judges, attacking the prosecutors, personally, threatening them."

"We've shown the evidence when he does that how his base responds," he elaborated. "And so the system is getting pulverized from within by Trump, and is being pressed to the umpteenth corner that it can go in trying to appease him, and allow him to be free while he is still behaving this way."

"So, if he wants to continue in this vein, then use the system the way the system would be used against all of us on the show right now," he suggested. "Because you know damn well, any one of us, if we said half of what he said, we would not be on air tonight. We would be in a jail cell. We would be shut down."

'You can't fix it later': Legal expert warns of harm Trump will cause ungagged

Donald Trump's gag order in his D.C. elections criminal case should be upheld by an appeals panel in part because, absent such an order, the former president can do massive amounts of damage to the witnesses and the integrity of the case, a former prosecutor said on Saturday.

Trump flexed his new freedom to attack Judge Engoron's law clerk in multiple social media posts earlier in the day. He was previously barred from insulting court staff to protect their safety, but the order was temporarily stayed pending an appeal. His D.C. gag order has similarly been paused.

'He will be barred': Watergate prosecutor predicts reversal of Trump's Colorado win

The major legal victory Donald Trump recently scored in Colorado when a judge there kept him on the state's ballot is likely to be short lived, according to a former assistant Watergate prosecutor on Saturday.

The former president celebrated the win at his rally on Saturday, saying the press was having a "meltdown" once it was ruled that he would be placed on the ballot. But legal minds were quick to point out that the judge ruled as a matter of fact that Trump engaged in "insurrection," which could have other ramifications.

'Seismic' Trump insurrectionist ruling opens door for Supreme Court surprise: legal expert

Jack Smith 'chess move' could place Judge Cannon under new scrutiny: expert

'A get-out-of-jail-free card for insurrection': CO secretary of state rips Trump ruling
