CBS News host Margaret Brennan grilled Republican vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance after his false claim that Haitians were eating pets incited bomb threats in Springfield, Ohio.

The confrontation came during a Sunday interview on Face the Nation.

Appearing on MSNBC on Sunday afternoon shortly after Donald Trump made the fateful decision to attack pop superstar Taylor Swift on Truth Social platform – which, in turn, angered some of his fans – George Conway told host Jen Psaki that the former president is in what appears to be an unstoppable downward spiral.

Noting his collapse in the presidential election polls combined with the ongoing controversy over campaign accusations against Haitian immigrants in Ohio, Conway claimed this was always the inevitable end for Trump.

"You are good at getting into the mind of Donald Trump," Psaki prompted her guest. "What struck me about his behavior is it feels to me like, yes, sociopathic behavior to quote you, but also desperation. It feels like desperation when he feels under attack, when he is behind –he behaves this way."

"He is reaching his final destination, which is complete decomposition, decompensation," he replied. "None of his tricks are working anymore; we are on to them. They don't excite anybody anymore."

"He is losing in the polls, he has to try to make things up, his own vice presidential candidate basically said we are making up stories to win this election," he added. "It isn't working for him and he knows it and he knows he is going down, the more he feels he is going down," he added. "Remember, he is not running just for president, but running from prison and you will see him engage in more desperate behavior and that is what you see with ''I hate Taylor Swift.' He is lashing out and his people have lost control."

Republican National Committee (RNC) co-chair Lara Trump deflected Sunday after Fox News host Howard Kurtz asked if she accepted the fact that former President Donald Trump was wrong about Haitians eating pets in Springfield, Ohio.

In an interview on Fox News, Kurtz noted that the former president made the claim during a recent debate on ABC News.

Fox News host Howard Kurtz and Fox Business host Liz Claman said Republican candidates Donald Trump and J.D. Vance created a "huge problem" after false claims about Haitians eating pets led to bomb threats in Springfield, Ohio.

On Sunday, Kurtz noted that the claims of pets being eaten had been debunked.

Rep. Brian Steil (R-WI) argued Sunday that passing a bill making it harder to vote was Republicans' "opportunity to win" the election.

In an interview on Fox News, Steil said he wanted House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to combine the so-called SAVE Act with a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government. The SAVE Act would make it more difficult to vote by requiring a passport or birth certificate to cast a ballot.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) repeated unsubstantiated claims that Haitians in Springfield, Ohio, were eating pets even though he admitted that he didn't know "if they're true or not."

During a Sunday interview on Fox News, host Maria Bartiromo faulted "the mainstream media" for not promoting unverified stories about migrants.

Moments after Republican Party Vice Presidential nominee J.D. Vance concluded a contentious interview with CNN "State of the Union": host Dana Bash, Gov. Josh Shapiro made an appearance and was momentarily speechless at what he had just witnessed.

During the long interview mostly centering on his attacks on Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio with the CNN host, Donald Trump's running mate talked over her, called a question about a bomb threat in Springfield "disgusting," and at one point told her she needed "to shut up."

Given a chance to respond to the Vance interview, Shapiro paused and then offered, "I mean, Dana, that was bonkers."

"Listen, the [Republican] governor of Ohio, the mayor of that town in Ohio, have said this is all made up. These are all lies, there's no truth to it," he continued. "And the United States senator from Ohio just came on your show and blamed his own constituents for his own lies? This guy is so pathetic."

"But the thing is, it is dangerous," he continued. "There is a causal connection between the BS that J.D Vance and Donald Trump spew and the safety and security of the American people. When they go out and they lie about this stuff they put their fellow Americans at risk."

"J.D. Vance should be ashamed of himself, he knows better," he added. "I mean, this guy, whether he's on your show or he's in some sports bar where I mean, by the way, a total pick me in that sports bar the other day. He just doesn't understand the power of his words, the power of his lies, and those lies are putting and people at risk."

"This is dangerous stuff," he told the host. "I know it started because they wanted to just distract the American people from their failed policies and their chaos. But this has now taken on a life of its own because of what they incited and people's lives are at risk because of J.D. Vance. This guy should know better, it's shameful what he did."

On Sunday morning, the co-hosts of MSNBC's "The Weekend" laughed at Donald Trump running mate Sen. J.D Vance after watching a "Meet the Press" clip of him walking back comments he made and admitting he's not speaking for the former president.

In the full interview with Vance, to be broadcast later on Sunday, the Ohio Republican was pressed on his claims about Trump signing a national abortion ban, and told host Kristen Welker, "I think I've learned my lesson and speaking for the president before he and I talked about an issue. What he said at the debate as he doesn't support a national ban. He thinks it's ridiculous to talk about vetoing legislation that is going to come up with the president in the first place."

That led "The Weekend" co-host Michael Steele to issue a singsong, "Somebody got spanked!" as his co-hosts laughed.

He later added, "Donald Trump ain't talking to that man. That's the whole point of this. I mean, at this point that is the whole point. At this stage on something like this, you and your presidential nominee have not discussed it? The way he rolled through that. ''I have learned not to speak for the president.' Well, you know? That's a problem for you. Get used to it."
