Abused Duggar sisters' counseling will be featured in TLC documentary

An upcoming documentary on The Learning Channel (TLC) will feature a counseling session for child abuse survivors attended by Jill and Jessa Duggar, whose own abuse at the hands of their brother led to their show being pulled from the network.

The Associated Press reported that the one-hour special, Breaking the Silence, will air on Aug. 30 and will include a session conducted by the advocacy group Darkness To Light.

The group said in a statement that the session was filmed earlier this month in New York City. Both Darkness To Light and the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN) collaborated with the network for the show.

TLC canceled the Duggar family's reality show, 19 Kids and Counting, last month, two months after Josh Duggar admitted to molesting Jessa and Jill Duggar when all three were underage. The network announced plans for the documentary shortly afterward.

The show had been pulled from the air by then and the network's parent company, Discovery Communications, suffered a $19 million loss as a result. Josh Duggar was never charged because the statute of limitations had passed on his actions before authorities looked into them.

A preview for the show posted by People magazine on Thursday does not feature the Duggars, but instead focuses on Erin Merryn, an abuse survivor who spearheaded the push to require public school education regarding sexual abuse. The statute known as Erin's Law in her honor was subsequently enacted in 26 states.

"Kids, if this has ever happened to you, this is not your fault," she says in the clip. "You're not to blame. And you need to tell somebody."
