El Paso County Sheriff says no active shooter at Air Force Academy preparatory school

The U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs was placed on lockdown late Friday night over reports of an active shooting situation.

According to local media, military personnel and the El Paso County Sheriff responded to the incident, which was reported near the academy's preparatory school.

There have been no reported injuries and a shooter has not been located. The Air Force Academy tweeted: "There are no confirmation of shots fired. Security forces are sweeping the area."

The sheriff's office later confirmed they uncovered no injuries and no shooter after searching the school's dorms.

In a text message to airmen, the USAFA had warned: “AN ACTIVE SHOOTER HAS BEEN DECLARED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT. LOCKDOWN. LOCKDOWN.” The message was sent just before 10 p.m. local time.

The school made headlines this week after racial slurs were written outside five black cadet candidates' dorm rooms.
