Activist group hangs effigies of clowns dressed in KKK robes from Virginia tree

An activist group strung up effigies of clowns dressed in Ku Klux Klan robes in a Virginia park.

The group INDECLINE issued a statement Thursday saying the display was inspired by white supremacist rallies starting in the spring, and they chose Richmond because it was the former capital of the Confederacy, reported WTVR-TV.

"If attacked by a mob of clowns, go for the juggler," read a placard on each clown figure, misspelling "jugular."

Joseph Bryan Park, which the activist group noted was the site of the Gabriel Prosser slave rebellion in 1800, was closed Thursday morning while police investigated.

INDECLINE was behind a naked statue of Donald Trump set up last year in Manhattan's Union Square, and they also placed the names of black victims of police brutality on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The clown-KKK display comes nearly a month after white supremacists rallied in nearby Charlottesville to protest the removal of Confederate memorials.
