Actor Bradley Whitford tells The View the US is like a dysfunctional family under Trump: 'Daddy's nuts'

Actor Bradley Whitford compared the United States to a dysfunctional family under President Donald Trump.

The Emmy-winning "West Wing" actor, who stars in the upcoming series "Valley of the Boom," appeared Friday on ABC's "The View," where he was asked to comment on the possibility that Trump will declare a national emergency over the border and end his government shutdown.

"It's a completely manufactured, insane moment that we're in," Whitford said.

He pointed to a pin he wears to honor Jamie Gutenberg, who was massacred last year at school in Parkland, Florida, and said the epidemic of gun violence was an emergency, and not immigrants trying to cross the southern border.

"Listen, this is an insane situation," Whitford said. "I mean, this is like an Al-Anon situation -- daddy's nuts. We're forced into a relationship and we have to get together and talk about it.

"Something's the matter with daddy," host Joy Behar chimed in.
