Alabama cops Tasered girl during seizure at concert and arrested mom for trying to help: suit

An Alabama woman claims police repeatedly shocked her and her teenage daughter with Tasers as the girl suffered from a seizure during a hip hop concert.

The woman, whose name was not released, filed a federal lawsuit last week against five police officers and the police chief from Rainbow City and three others from Gadsden, as well as the Center Stage venue where the concert was held, reported AL.com.

The 32-page suit claims police used a Taser at least three times on the child’s chest as police officers pinned her to the ground Jan. 16 while she endured a grand mal seizure, and other police officers who were nearby failed to intervene.

When the girl’s mother tried to help, officers knocked her to the ground, handcuffed her, shocked her with a Taser and then arrested her.

The city attorneys for each town declined to comment on the suit, and representatives from Center Stage – where recording artist Kevin Gates performed during the incident – did not return calls seeking comment.

The lawsuit claims the teenager suffered a grand mal seizure earlier that day at her high school – where she was treated but not hospitalized.

She later went to the concert, where the suit claims a performer caused a “stampede” after going into the crowd – triggering another seizure after concertgoers “trampled” the girl.

The teen’s sister told a Center Stage employee that the girl was having a seizure, and the worker carried her to the lobby and dumped her on the ground, where she was then placed in a chokehold.

The sister called their mother, who arrived a short time later in a T-shirt and pajama pants, and police quickly pinned her to the ground and fired a Taser at the woman, causing her to urinate.

Officers then used a Taser three times against the teenager as she lay face-down with her arms pinned behind her, causing the girl to lose consciousness.

She was taken to a nearby hospital, where her mother was arrested for disorderly conduct, and the suit claims police mocked the girl and threatened to take her to a mental hospital.

The lawsuit claims the girl continues to lose consciousness and suffer muscle contractions, as well as exhibit loud and involuntary vocalizations, as a result of the incident.

The suit seeks damages for pain, emotional distress, medical expenses, punitive damages and attorney's fees.
