Alan Dershowitz shoots down Devin Nunes’ latest attempt to undermine Trump investigations

Trump-defending Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz hit back against a GOP congressman who insists that Democrats engaged in "witness tampering" with the president's former longtime "fixer" Michael Cohen.

In an interview with Fox News earlier in the day, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), a White House ally, accused House Democrats of "coaching" Cohen prior to his testimonies before various committees in an attempt to establish a "new narrative."

Republicans like Nunes have been up in arms about Democratic staff meeting with Cohen before his testimonies — but as many, including Dershowitz, have argued, such meetings are cursory.

The Harvard Law professor noted later on the network that Nunes' statement appears to be an "exaggeration."

"It's perfectly lawful for Democratic staffers to travel to prepare a witness," he said. "That happens every day. I don't know what the fuss is about that."

"I think it really depends on what influence the lawyers or the staffers may have had on his testimony," he added later. "They are not allowed to tell him what to say, obviously. On the other hand, they are allowed to suggest what the areas of interest are of the members of Congress. I think it has to be looked into very carefully but with a presumption of innocence."

"I don't think there is anything there," Dershowitz declared. "I think if Republicans were in House control today and they were calling Hillary Clinton people who were going to testify against Hillary Clinton or against Democrats they would be sending people to New York to help prepare their testimony."

If Nunes and other Republicans are so worried, he added, they can call the staffers — or Cohen himself — to testify.

"We have to presume that they just did what lawyers and staffers do all the time," he said. "And that is help prepare witnesses, cover the areas that want to be discussed. This sounds like a lot of sound and fury signifying nothing."
